Nov. 3, 2016—CFISD volleyball teams joined the national movement to battle breast cancer by participating in The Side-Out Foundation’s Dig Pink events during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The foundation’s Dig Pink Rally brings together volleyball players across the nation to raise funds for breast cancer research, while demonstrating the power of teamwork and showing support for people with the disease.

CFISD’s designated Dig Pink volleyball game was held during district matchups on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Cypress Ranch’s varsity and junior varsity teams hosted Jersey Village while its freshmen teams played Cypress Park. The Mustangs sold shirts and sponsored paper volleyballs, while the girls’ soccer team held a bake sale during the game. The teams raised $680 during the event, an amount matched by a parent for a total of $1,360 that was donated to the organization Bright Pink.

The Panthers also honored breast cancer fighters and survivors on their campus. Two teachers, Carol Urbani and Charlotte Godsey, were recognized at the game, while the third, counselor Wanda Brown, could not be in attendance.

Langham Creek and Cypress Creek high schools raised $907 through a bake sale, certificate sale honoring those who have fought or are fighting cancer, donations made at the gate and a raffle for a “Fight Breast Cancer” hat.
